Digital Landscape

When exploring the web, I was surprised to find out that Sullies not only has a website, but a twitter and a facebook page. I was not expecting a small, family owned business to be so in touch with technology. I was most impressed by their website. The general set up of it is well done and aesthetically pleasing.  It is simple and the different tabs to click on are clear. I am also impressed with the content of the website. They list the full menu and the prices. They also have a merchandise section and a contact section. The website has a few unique sections which I think make it special. They have a “memory lane” section where customers can write down their favorite memories and a few are posted. I think this really helps demonstrate how Sullies is a family place and generations of families go there. They also have an “about” section which gives a brief history of the place and instructions on how to order.  Lastly there is a “Castle Island” section which explains the area upon which Sullies is located. The website is completely user friendly and inviting. The website is littered with pictures of the building, the food, and the surrounding area. There was also quite a few old black&white photos which I found particularly interesting since I am curious about the history of Sullies. The facebook and twitter pages are a slightly different story. The twitter page has a simple green background and their avatar is of the building. The twitter is filled with different promotions of theirs. Most recently a children’s Halloween costume event coming up soon and Sullies has been giving away Bruin’s tickets. The facebook is an extension of that. The facebook page post the promotions as long as random pictures and updates. Their cover photo is an oldschool picture of Sullies, but the building looks nothing like the current building. This only makes me more curious about the history of Sullies. The fact that sullies runs so many promotions shows how big of a part of the community they are. All this digital output demonstrates how important the customers are to Sullies. They create an inviting atmosphere to new and old visitors.

  1. I really enjoy how this family own company differs so much from beef barn because beef barns website is not up to date and they do not keep up with it. However, Sullies is also a family own business and their website is kept up to date and even has such sections as 'memory lane'. I love that they have a section where everyone can write down their favorite memories! It is so interesting to see a family own business excel at using technology. Good work!

  2. Shannon,
I was really interested to hear about yours since we have similar topics. I was surprised to hear about their website AND twitter! Like Ava said, its interesting how different your response was from mine with the Beef Barn. I think its very helpful to have a well organized website. Its so cute they have the tabs like "memory lane"! I'm interested to check out their full menu. I think being this active online helps their business.

  3. I am surprised to hear how much is on the web about your field site. It is so great that they have a memory lane, it shows the impact that thee restaurant has on the city, and how it is down to earth because they care about their customers and like to share happy moments with them.

  4. I absolutely love the "Memory Lane" piece on the website! That is so cute! I think what you said about how that shows the family aspect of Sullies is very true. Whoever thought to put that up on the website was very smart and must really appreciate their customers! I think that I will be taking a trip to Sullies website soon and checking out their menu....maybe I'll even take a trip to the actual restaurant!

  5. I was surprised when you mentioned that such a small business that I haven't even heard of while living my whole life in RI is also using social networking, and I like how it wasn't just a rehash of the website and instead used for different things. I also like how they have a more sentimental approach instead of just big business, with the past and memory lane things you explained!

  7. I think it's great how connected they are to the internet, since they have a website, a twitter, and a facebook. I also really love the memory lane section. It sounds like such a great concept to allow people to post memories like that. Also, the fact that they are involved and have events and give away tickets is wonderful.
